Individual, seemingly simple objects play the leading role in exhibition “IN VITRO - Stories of Glass in Pharmacy and Medicine from Antiquity to Modern Times”, introducing us to a historical-archaeological interpretation of the human drive to investigate the origins of diseases and physical ailments.
From antiquity through all subsequent historical periods, glass has held a significant place in medicine, pharmacy, and a range of related fields. Its application relied on the unique properties of a material that is solid yet transparent—either completely colorless or slightly tinted—chemically inert, and capable of preserving the original substances contained within the glass vessels for long periods.
Beyond the objects that form the core of these stories, the exhibition offers an experience that blends various senses—sight, sound, and smell—guiding us through specific historical moments of human ingenuity in which glass has always played a special role.
The exhibition is accompanied by an engaging audiovisual project by Stipe Surać, which will premiere at the opening and be screened regularly throughout the exhibition's run.
