The Department of Ancient Glass is one of the main components of the Museum of Ancient Glass in Zadar that has been developing its projects and activities since 2009. Alongside primary activity that refers to collecting, documenting, preserving and researching museum material, the scope of work also encompasses scientific evaluation and presentation of ancient glass artifacts. New, original and experimental research of science and technology of glass is conducted with educational and scientific objectives.
The department staff conceives and conducts versatile programs, such as creative workshops, educational programs and courses, guided tours, lectures, round tables and colloquia, interdisciplinary projects etc. Senior curators are experts in very diverse fields regarding ancient glassmaking. They are actively involved in informing the visitors concerning any questions they might have, object identification and scientific research.
The Department of Ancient Glass analyzes and evaluates glass material systematized in collections covering a broad chronological span. The collections preserve utilitarian objects, mostly used in everyday life as tableware, or as containers for certain medicinal and cosmetic products.
